Two humiliations…
The most recent at a Sweet Sixteen birthday party and one long ago involving the purchase of Funk & Wagnalls encyclopedias. Marrying both of these with humor and heart, Joseph Passe, teacher, seeks to make a stirring defense of decency in his last class on his last day before retirement.
Since 2005 Raymond Goodwin has performed his solo plays in 40-plus towns and cities across Central and Northern Michigan and the Eastern Upper Peninsula, including Sault Ste Marie, Traverse City, Charlevoix, Elk Rapids, Mackinaw City, St. Ignace, Clare, Carson City, and Coleman. Funk & Wagnalls is his 16th play.
Raymond is also the author of Sawdusted: Notes from a Post-boom Mill, a 2011 Michigan Notable Book. Sawdusted will be republished by Wayne State University Press in Spring 2027 under the title Sawdusted: A Millhand’s Chronicle of Hell-raising and Hard Work.

With your support, HERTHA has purchased the Town Hall, preserving it for public use. The people of Elk Rapids have spoken loudly about the value the Hall holds for them - donate today to support our ongoing efforts to preserve and promote the use of this beloved community treasure.
